Ipad 2 unused items folder-how to close

I made a folder on the home screen to put icons that I seldom use. When I open it, I don't know how to close it. It won't swipe up and away like other icons. I solved the problem by closing the case cover, it locks, and when I open it the folder is closed. There must be an easier way to close it.
